There was lots of resilience seen yesterday during the different activities.
Twinkle class had to work hard to build the giant’s house in slippery conditions. They also used their science and mathematics skills to find a number of different ways to sort the seeds and find the magic beans.
In Class 1 children were in a cycle of planning, testing and then going away to think about how they could change their ideas and adapt their models to make them work better; working towards achieving their goal of getting Jack down quickly but safely from the beanstalk.
Class 2 were working on programming simulations. Children had to check the coding carefully and go back through to debug it when the programs didn’t run how they needed them to.
There was lots of creativity happening in Class 3 to adapt Jack’s outfit to make it more effective. The children were following a design brief and testing different materials to identify which ones would work the best.
The children then had their first parent visitor in to talk about their STEM career as an Electrical Engineer for National Grid. They listened carefully about what the job entails daily basis and then asked some fantastic questions to deepen their understanding.
‘Why is it called a transformer?’ (Year 4 pupil)
‘If you have to turn the electricity off to work on them do you have to warn people that they will not have power for a certain amount of time?’ (Year 5 pupil)
‘How do you fix a cable if it breaks?’ (Year 1 pupil)
