The wellbeing of the pupils at Costock is important to us and we have taken a number of steps to ensure that the children are happy and healthy as we believe that this makes them better learners.

Emotional Literacy Support Assistant

We are keen to provide extra support for individual pupils if we can. ELSA is an initiative, which recognises that children learn better and are happier at school if both their emotional and educational needs are addressed.

Mrs Holland is a fully-trained Emotional Literacy Support Assistant (ELSA) and will be working with children on emotional issues/self-esteem/managing feelings/friendship issues. Class teachers will make referrals to her and she will always seek your permission before including your child in any of the sessions.  You are welcome to come and talk to her if you wish to find out more about what she does.

We are sure that this work will have a positive impact on the children’s emotional wellbeing within school.

Growth Mindset

If you’re open to growth, you tend to grow. Praise the amount of effort the child is putting in rather than how clever they are.

We have done a lot of work with the children about Growth Mindset and you have probably heard them talking about it at home. There are displays in all the classrooms, but what is it?

  • It is a way of thinking, believing that who you are is constantly changeable.

  • It is the belief that every moment is simply a passageway to becoming a better person.

  • It is the mentality that learning and growth are endless and that the greatest accomplishments are met through dedication, practice and effort.
