Welcome to Reception - our class is a vibrant, nurturing and inspiring place where our youngest learners begin their exciting school journey.

Our Reception children, fondly known as "Twinkle Class", share a warm and engaging learning environment with Class 1, creating a supportive space where curiosity, confidence and independence can shine.

Our Approach to Learning

Reception and Class 1 follow a blended learning approach that combines structured teaching with rich play-based exploration and consolidation of prior knowledge and skills. We call this our Active Learning time, where children develop essential skills through hands-on experiences, guided activities and purposeful play.

​Reading Expectations

We encourage all children to read with an adult for 5 to 10 minutes each dayThese reading sessions should be recorded in their reading diaries, which are checked weekly to celebrate progress and support next steps. 

​

Phonics, SPaG & Mental Maths

Twinkles & Year 1 pupils enjoy daily phonics sessions following the Little Wandle Letters and Sounds programme.

Year 2 pupils take part on focused SPaG (Spelling, Punctuation and Grammar) and Mental Maths lessons over the course of the week.

​

In Class One we are expected to bring the following items into school every day:

  • Water bottle

  • Reading Record

  • Reading book

  • ​

​Staying Connected

​Our teachers use Class Dojo to share updates, celebrate achievements and keep families informed about the wonderful learning taking place each day.

Teacher: Miss Mellor / Mrs Meese

In Class Two we are expected to bring the following items in with us every day:

  • Water Bottle 

  • Reading Book 

  • Reading Diary

  • Any equipment I need to support my learning e.g. glasses

​

Our teachers expect us to read daily and with an adult a few times a week. This is to be recorded in our reading diaries and these will be checked every week.

​​

We are expected to practise our times tables and/or division facts daily and will be tested on the ones we are working on every Friday.  We can use Times Tables Rock Stars  and Purple Mash to help us practise.

​

We have a Home Learning book that each week we complete a task linked to our current learning. These tasks will be set on a Friday and expected back in by the following Thursday.

​

​​Each term, we will set a home learning project around one of our curriculum questions. The children will have the opportunity to present their project in a variety of different ways.

Class Three

 

Teacher: Mr Bakewell

Teaching Assistant: Mrs Walker

​

In Class Three we are expected to bring the following items into school every day:

  • Water bottle

  • Reading Record

  • Reading book

​​

Our teacher expects us to read regularly and record our reading in our reading record. We have weekly spellings to learn and also times tables to practise.

We have regular home learning tasks. These include shorter tasks to support our learning in class and long term projects which we work on with our families.

We all have access to Purple Mash and Times Table Rock Stars so that we can extend our learning at home.
