The children are really embracing our STEM afternoons and as the week has gone on they are beginning to see the STEM-related connections in lots of different areas of their lives.
We have seen children’s confidence grow and the conversations they are having with each other have been fantastic to hear.
Critical thinking is one of the key competencies, and this is an area that has really shone throughout the school this week. We have seen pupils analysing information, evaluating their designs, reflecting on decisions, synthesising new ideas and proposing creative solutions within all activities they have taken part in.
‘We need to make barriers and the roof more stable, to make it safer’ (Year 4)
‘I’ve added tape around the edge so that it goes a little slower to make Jack’s landing safer’ (Year 3)
We finished yesterday off by welcoming two more parents in to school to talk about their careers within Rolls-Royce. Again, pupils listened intently and it was great to see how the activities they are doing in school actually link to real life situations.
