6th November Football

This time it was the boys turn to kick off their league campaign, playing host to Flintham Primary School. Similar to the girls, the boys will be playing against schools with majority of their players being year 6, whereas we will be putting out teams consisting of  year 4. 5 & 6's. Before the game even kicked off we were already a man down with our first-choice goalkeeper, Ben, falling ill on the day.

The game started off as a stalemate with both sides pushing for an opening before a moment of brilliance from Finley sent Stanley through 1 on 1 to goal who calmly slotted past the Flintham keeper to give us a 1-0 lead. Within a matter of moments, the Flintham captain put away a tidy free kick to level the game at 1-1. Flintham then found themselves 2-1 up against a very tired Costock team who had no substitutes to bring on. Flintham continued with lots of attack in the second half and we were 5-1 down with 5 minutes left to play. Our stand in goalkeeper, Victor, pulled off some remarkable saves to keep the score line down, and Regan grabbed us a late consolation goal before the fulltime whistle blew. Despite a 5-2 defeat our boys did the school (& themselves) proud with their performance; they looked like a team who had been playing for years when in fact only 2 of them play football outside of school. Well done boys!
