Across the Spring and Summer terms, the girls continued battling it out on the Football pitch! After the Winter break the girls hosted Sutton Bonington in a friendly match to get them prepared for the final league games and to try out new tactics and WOW... Our girls ran out 5-1 winners! With goals from Taia (2), Captain Taylor, Beatrice & Olivia.
Next up was a trip to Bunny for a Rushcliffe league encounter. Earlier on in the year we unfortunately lost 2-1 in the reverse fixture and this time the girls were determined to win! We knew it was going to be challenging but the girls stuck to the game plan and put in the performance of the year. They played some beautiful football and rounded the evening off at the top of the league table after the victory! Goals from Taia (2), Emilia & Taylor saw us bring home all 3 points. A special mention to Poppy (year 3!), playing her first ever football game! All the girls did exceptionally well and it was by far the best the girls have played all year. Taylor said “I was really proud of the girls, it was the best we have played all year and the girls all played so well, it was a really fun match”.
We then got asked (because of our recent performances) to take part in the Summer Rushcliffe tournaments, where the top 24 teams in Rushcliffe took part. Unfortunately, having been placed in a group full of schools much bigger than ourselves, the results didn't go our way; drawing 2 and losing 3.and therefore finishing 4th/6 in the group. The girls weren't phased however, and came away from the tournament more resilient!
The girls then hosted Rosecliffe in their final league match of the season. A win meant that we had one hand on the trophy, so a lot was at stake. After going behind early on, the girls fought back with 3 fantastic goals from Emilia, Taylor & finally Taia! We ran out 3-1 winners!!! This result means we sit high and mighty at the top of the league, hoping that results from the other games due to be played in the coming weeks go in our favour. Well done girls!
