25th June - Costock Cricket success!

A few days prior to the annual T10 Keyworth Cricket club festival, we travelled again to our good friends at Willow Brook primary where we played a friendly warm up Cricket match in preparation for the festival. With injuries and absentees we were left a little short for the match, but Ollie (year 4) stepped up and put in a magnificent performance! Unfortunately the result went in favour of Willow Brook, but it gave us lots of experience going into the festival.

On the day of the festival, our first match was against Tollerton, who had a plethora of county level players - which unfortunately paid dividends. We then got drawn against St Edmund Campion where we ran out comfortable winners by 55 runs!

These results meant that we got placed into group 3 in the afternoon matches, competing for the Plate Cup trophy against 3 other schools.

  • In the semi final we played Willoughby, where we put on a show for the spectators; scoring 120 runs whilst only losing 2 wickets. Harry scored the magic number 25 before retiring, Stanley unfortunately fell 1 run short on 24, Taylor scored a quickfire 20 and Ethan hit a massive six to take his score to 27 before retiring. We then followed up our batting display with some dominance when bowling/fielding. We managed to get all of the Willoughby players out before the 10 overs were complete, all whilst restricting them to 22 runs. Victor took an impressive 3 wickets and conceded 0 runs! W e ran out winners by 98 runs!!!

  • Next up, in the final, was Candleby lane. We continued our momentum through from the semi final and batted first, scoring exactly 100 runs! Ethan once again getting past 25 and retiring, finishing the game on 31, but the pick of the bunch has to be Stan who scored 29 runs off only 7 balls and almost taking a hat-rick of wickets! Our bowling and fielding display could not have been any better; 2 run outs & 3 catches epitomised the extraordinary effort the whole team put in. Winning the game by 54 runs, the Plate Trophy was brought home to Costock!

We are so proud of every single one of the team who, in one way or another, contributed to our success. It was fantastic day all round which made burning in the 29 degree sun worthwhile! A special mention to our joint captains, Stanley & Victor. They captained the team fantastically, showcasing great teamwork and togetherness as well as both coming so close to individual awards: Victor being the 2nd leading wicket taker out of around 160 pupils and Stanley being the 4th highest run scorer overall. Well done boys and well done team! A great achievement.
