12th October Football

The girls kicked off our sporting endeavours this school year, with an away trip to Rosecliffe Spencer Academy in the Rushcliffe Schools Girls Football league. The girls were the first to showcase our new sports kit!

This game was a first for 7 out of our 8 girls who were involved, with some playing football for the first time only a few weeks beforehand! Coming into a competition with most schools only fielding year 6's, our team was made up of a mixture of Year 4, 5 and 6's but we were really looking forward to the challenge ahead.

We rushed into a 2-0 lead thanks to two long range strikes from Captain fantastic, Taylor. Player of the match Esme and her defensive partner Holly formed a formidable wall in defence that the Rosecliffe attack could not break down, taking us into half time. However, this was a game of two halves – in the second half Rosecliffe threw everything at us. Against our tired legs and squad depth, and some great tactical substitutions from Rosecliffe, they scored 2 quickfire goals in the last 5 minutes concluding the game as a 2-2 draw. Handshakes all round. A great battle was had. Despite not winning the game, the girls were really pleased with how they performed in their first ever match; they showed great togetherness, real fight and spirit.

Mr Pollard was super proud of the girls’ performance in their first match, representing the school fantastically and showing what Costock is all about.
